This study aims to explore the collective learning that appear during the activities of community-based enterprises. Utilizing Engeström’s expansive learning theory as an analytical framework, this study focuses on cooperatives operating as community enterprises as hybrid activity systems where the heterogeneous voices of public interest and profit intersect. A qualitative case study was adopted as the research method, and community enterprise ‘Nori’ in Korea, was selected as the research site. As a result of the study, the following patterns of expansive learning were identified during the Nori’s activity process. First, a new objective of economic self-reliance was established within the volunteer-centered activity system, and a new activity system called a community enterprise was formed. Second, internal tensions regarding public interest and profit intensified during the transition to a community enterprise, and the activity systems for training community’s teacher and career education were newly established through discussions involving heterogeneous voices. Third, an expansive activity system network was established through networking with external activity systems such as teacher community, school, and parent community. In this process, transformative learning patterns emerged in which new practices were generated within the local education ecosystem. Based on these research results, it is possible to identify the patterns of collective learning at the local community level and contribute to discussions on expansive learning in the field of the local social economy.
